Croft House, Askrigg
This is one of the most special cottages we have found, and the beamed ceilings, flag floors and an original period range with open fire all contribute to the wonderful, character feel of Croft House. It is set in a small square in the popular village of Askrigg, only a minutes walk from the centre of the village with its shops, pubs, tea shops and restaurant, yet has a wonderful walled back garden with wonderful views of the meadows and footpaths immediately behind the cottage.
Croft House offers all of the comforts of home, with fabrics and antique furniture chosen with flair and style to complement the beautiful architecture of this Grade II listed building, and a fascinating collection of antiques throughout the house.
As you approach the cottage you are struck by its presence in the square. You walk through the pretty front garden surrounded by a stone wall with railings, and along the lavender lined path to the front door with its original old lock. You enter the house into the stone flagged living/dining room with comfy seating around the original old Yorkshire range with its open fire, and oak dining table and chairs with antique dresser. The sitting room with the second open fire and stone flagged floor is also at the front of the house, with views over the front garden. This room is full of character with its antique grandfather clock and corner cupboard, stuffed with games and books.
The very special hand built and designed kitchen with its oak cupboards and granite worktops is at the rear of the house off the living/dining room, with views into the terraced backgarden and to the hills beyond. This is a well equipped kitchen and off the kitchen is the utility room which then leads into the old cart house with ample storage for outdoor gear, bikes etc. This is where you will also find the fuel store for the open fires. Also downstairs is the shower room for the house, tucked away in a secret corner.
From the kitchen a traditional stone staircase leads to the landing and snug, where you can hide away for a quiet moment and enjoy the view to the fells beyond. The master bedroom is really something special, with its fabulous vaulted beamed ceiling, original fireplace and more antique furniture, including the splendid king size Chatelaine sleigh bed. There is a charming single bedroom, again with original fireplace. The family suite is a dual aspect room with windows looking over both the front and rear of the cottage, and has a king size sleigh bed. It has a galleried area with a single bed, again tucked away in the eaves of the house, and a relaxation area with a double chaise longue, TV and video.
There is a family bathroom tucked under the eaves, with a fabulous Victorian style roll top bath. All of the rooms upstairs have wooden floors, and there are rugs scattered throughout the cottage.
The walled terraced garden at the rear of the house is very private. The garden itself has flower beds, lawn, and both a patio and a decked area with garden furniture and a charcoal barbeque. There are extensive views to the fells beyond.
Open fires in both living/dining room and snug with fuel provided, full oil central heating with underfloor heating downstairs, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble drier, fridge, freezer, electric fan oven, toaster, cafetiere, TV and DVD in snug, TV and video in family suite, TV in master bedroom, Wireless broadband, music centre, tourist information, books, games, videos, shoe cleaning kit, iron and ironing board, bedlinen and teatowels all provided within hire charge, downstairs shower room with shower, toilet and washbasin, bathroom with toilet, bath, washbasin and electric shaver point. Oil and fuel for fires included in the hire charge. Firelighters, matches and kindling provided for your arrival. Tea tray on arrival. Sorry, no pets or smokers.
