The Manse, Keld

If you are looking for a property with a touch of the unusual, then you have found it with The Manse in Keld. It is steeped in local history, and is literally in the heart of the village, where it and its adjoining United Reformed Church have been central to village life since 1860 when they were built, replacing chapels that can be traced back to 1540 on the same site.

The Manse is still owned by the church and has recently been completely refurbished to enhance the charm and understated simplicity of the cottage but complemented by the needs of 21st century living. It is crammed with original features, including deepset windows with windowseats, beamed ceilings, wood and York stone flagged floors and Georgian windows framing the stunning views of the village and Swaledale, which are literally on your doorstep. The Pennine Way and Coast to Coast walks are only a short stroll away.

The Manse has a living room with open fire, dining room with a further open fire, a dining kitchen with an old fashioned range, 2 double bedrooms, a twin room and a house shower room. There are enclosed gardens to the front and rear with garden furniture, and private parking for 2 cars. There is a teashop in the village, a pub/restaurant within a few minutes walk and a village shop 3 miles away. Church services are usually every other Sunday at 2pm.

This really is a special place where you can soak up the history and atmosphere and recharge your batteries.

Accommodation

From the wrought iron fenced front garden you enter into a small entrance porch with a seat and shoe and boot storage. From here is the beamed dining room with a table that will comfortably seat 8, and where you can toast yourself in front of one of the 2 open fires in the house. There is also a bureau and window seat. From the dining room you enter the stone flagged dining kitchen with a traditional range (decorative only), with windows looking out onto the back garden and from which you can see the village and across the top of Swaledale to the hills beyond. The kitchen is split across two rooms, with a further galley Shaker style kitchen off the main room, again with views and windows over the back garden and with the back door into the covered back porch and old garden shed. Back at the front of the house and next to the dining room is the comfortable, beamed and relaxing sitting room, with shelved alcoves, window seat, widescreen TV, Sky, DVD Player, books, games and open fire. There is also a downstairs WC with ample space for boot and coat storage, plus a boiler room with capacity for drying wet outdoor gear.

Upstairs there are more of the extensive views from each room, both front and back. The master double room has an oak bed, and antique wardrobe and dressing table. There is a spacious twin room and a second smaller double, both also with antique furniture. The house shower room is also on this floor.

To the front of the Manse there is an enclosed south facing garden, and to the rear a garden of raised beds around mature trees with stone flagged areas in between, including a level area directly adjoining the house from which to enjoy the stunning views of the village and countryside beyond.
